UPDATE: Ericsson to sell 400 mln euro of hardware, software to MTS

MOSCOW, Oct 23 (PRIME) -- Swedish telecom equipment maker Ericsson will deliver 400 million euros worth of hardware and software for 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT) to major Russian mobile operator MTS in 2017–2020, MTS said on Monday in a statement.

“We’ve reached an agreement on supplies of new equipment from Ericsson, thanks to which our network will be ready for implementation of first solutions based on 5G technologies starting from 2020,” MTS’ Vice President for Technology and IT Andrei Ushatsky said.

“After modernization, MTS’ network will ensure a higher speed of data transfer, bigger capacity and shorter delaying time that is crucially important for IoT and digital services, which we introduce already now.”

The companies signed the agreement on modernization and preparation of MTS’ network for the 5G standard and IoT technologies. The deal is a part of the companies’ strategy to get the operator’s network ready to launch new services on the basis of 5G and IoT quickly.

The introduction of new software and hardware will enable MTS to renovate its 2G, 3G, and LTE networks in the Northwest, Siberian, Southern, Urals, and Volga federal districts.

Including the contract, the total volume of purchases of products and services by MTS from Ericsson may amount to almost 2 billion euros in 2008–2020.
